Our story

Don’t let the name fool you. Our favorite color is pink and we grow all the pink flowers here at Yellow Finch Farm. The name was given by my then 4 year old when he insisted that the Goldfinch love birds that were courting in the sunflowers were certainly not gold but yellow. He was right. They are a very bright, beautiful yellow and they find their way back to the sunflowers and all the flowers year after year. We wait and celebrate each time they arrive. Always courting and flirting through the hot summer days. We could watch them all day long.

Yellow Finch Farm is a small backyard farm located in Powhatan VA. We grow a wide variety of specialty stems that bloom from April to October. Each plant starts from seed, corm, or tuber here on the farm. We’ve had a family garden for the last 9 years and realized early on how vital flowers are for the pollinators and all the crops. So each year we added more varieties and absolutely fell in love with Dahlias, Ranunculus, Lisianthus, and Heirloom Chrysanthemums. These are just a few of the focal flowers we grow. We are also avid herbal tea enthusiasts and grow tons of fresh herbs. We like to add these herbs into our bouquets to round out the beauty of the blooms with a fresh invigorating scent while also adding that green contrast that we all love. It’s a wonderful combination!

In addition to fresh cut flowers, we also grow loofah. Yes, loofah the sponge. Many are shocked to learn that loofah is a gourd that grows on a vine. They are a fun plant to grow! Loofah is a long growing vine that needs processing after harvesting to become the sponge we know it as. We process our loofah without bleach or any harmful chemicals and sell them during the off season as shower sponges and massage bar loofah soap. Check out the details in the “shop” tab!
